Baggage
In 2019, I began working on “Baggage,” a one woman show about the intergenerational trauma in my matriarchal line. I set out to make a clown show that involves the audience in tangible ways. Throughout the show, I talk to and engage with audience members. In the climax of the performance, I ask them to paint my face white, after which I ask: “will you protect me now?” I crafted the piece with the knowledge that most of my audience would be white. I saw this as an opportunity to showcase the connection between the racially motivated traumas and the intergenerational baggage I received from my foremothers. "Baggage" is my personal swan song to the theater, acting as a mirror to my own experiences and helping me unpack the traumas and “put down the bags.”
